What Does a Delicious Life Look Like?

4/2/2022

Here are Seven Steps to help you live a Delicious Life

1. Know what you want.  Take the time to write out, in great detail, what that would look like, feel, like, sound like and taste like? What are you doing? Who are you surrounded by? What impact are you making in the world?

2. Spend at least 5-10 minutes a day envisioning that life and act like you are already living it. For example, if you are envisioning a healthy body, DO what a healthy body would do. I'm not saying to run a marathon today but take one step every day to get into better shape.

3. Feed your mind. Read or listen to something inspiring 30 minutes a day.  Turn your car into a University and learn as you commute to work, or drive to Costco. I listen to uplifting podcasts and audible books on average of  2 hours a day. It's sounds like a lot, but it's super easy to do. Making dinner usually takes me an hour, so I feed my mind while I'm preparing to feed my body. :)  I run and walk for 45 minutes and put my air pods in and learn on the go.

4. Feed your body. I'm working on a course called "Mindful Manje" (mindful food).  I start by giving the definition of food.  Hint: it's not processed, so almost everything in a box or a bag is not food - it's chemicals under the guise of food. Take a look at what you are putting into your body. Read the labels. Make small changes every day. Switch out your soda for lemon water, add fresh fruits and veggies to your diet.

5. Feed your spirit. We are spiritual Beings having a human experience. What feeds your soul? A walk in nature? Music? Meditation? Creating something? Prayer? We are all so busy and often neglect to feed our spirit because "we don't have time".  Everyone can find 10-20 minutes a day. Commit to it, do it.

6. Utilize the power of two minutes.  I watched a Ted Talk by Shawn Achor called "The Happiness Advantage". I've watched it many times - it's amazing! Shawn says we can train our brains to become more positive by doing small acts, for 2 minutes, for 21 days in a row. This will rewire your brain, and can create a real revolution of positivity..
Here are some suggestions, the first 5 come from Shawn, the remaining 5 come from me:

  1. Recognize 3 new things you are grateful for. (Think about them for 2 minutes.) You will begin to look for the positive first.
  2. Journal one positive experience you’ve had in the last 24 hours.
  3. Exercise (definition of exercise: activity requiring physical effort done to improve health and fitness. My suggestion is to work up to 2 minutes of doing the yoga plank pose.  It sounds easy, but if you are like me, it’s not!)
  4. Meditation - focus on one thing that brings you joy.
  5. Do conscious acts of kindness, like 1 email praising someone or write a check to a favorite charity (I like to consciously send love and healing while I’m writing out the check.  For the ones that are on auto pay, I spend 2 minutes visualizing the wonderful ways that money will bless others.
  6. Dance - put on your favorite song and dance like a child with no inhibitions.
  7. SING!
  8. Laugh out loud!
  9. Pay for coffee for the person behind you in line.
  10.  Anonymously buy a meal for a person in military uniform who is on your flight.
