I have too much on my plate. I’ve been trying to keep my head above water, but despite my best efforts, it’s not working well. Because the business of life and perfectly managing my To Do list is such a challenge for me, I like to share ways that help me to slow down. I use what I need help with as a topic of discussion and learning. To put it another way, my mess is my message. I’m not a master organizer, I’m in the trenches with many of you, doing my best to navigate clarity.
Here are some suggested truths to follow to help liberate you from the fallacy of perfection:
One of the many reasons I love to cook is because it can incorporate all of the steps above.
I hope this has given you a few ideas to live deliciously. You are going to want to fill your plate with my “Insanely Delicious Lasagna”, link below. Lasagna.pdf

![]() My mom had an affinity towards shoes and purses - she had TONS of them. It brought her joy. For me, it’s dishes! I have so many that I need a new house to put them all in LOL. There is so much to love about dishes, bowls, plates, and platters! The color, the shape, the way they feel in your hands! If they are ceramic, I especially love the design and flow. I imagine the person who created it and can feel the love of their art embedded in their work. If they are wood, it’s the pattern of the grain - really it’s the story of the tree’s growth during its lifespan that brings me in and fascinates me. There is something intimate and profoundly beautiful about that, about ALL of it. I love molding my hands around a ceramic bowl of hot soup on a cold day. Call me crazy, but I send love to my dishes and I feel love back. It brings me joy. Using the right bowl, plate, or platter, really adds to the beauty of a meal. It can elevate the experience because it adds visual and energetic sustenance to your victuals. I also love that dishes can also be defined as prepared food. Of course, I LOVE those kinds of dishes too. What are your favorite dishes and why? Here are a couple of pictures of a few of my favorite dishes and a recipe link to one of other kinds of favorite dishes. The coconut cup was made by my Grandpa. His craftsmanship is beautiful and I feel the power of his integrity in his work. Talking about dishes….here is a link to one of my favorite dishes my Mom made when I was growing up. It’s a family favorite. Beef Tomato There are some situations in life where I’m not sure what to do. Cooking is not one of them. I feel like I have a group of Grandma Chefs who whisper to me while I cook -” try this, add that! Oh, this would go well with….” These suggestions come to me every day, sometimes, even in the middle of the night!
We all have access to a still small voice that's meant to guide us through our daily life. Sometimes the whisper is barely audible, I ask God to pump up the volume. This request is answered with another whisper that says “You need to be intentional, grounded, and open to hear it. It takes practice”. Oh shoot, that means no, and I have to do it from my side. I think when we are authentically engaged in doing something we love, our hearts help us to hear our guidance better. The challenge for me is to be intentional and open when I'm engaged in something I don’t love. It’s hard for me to hear that still small voice when I’m afraid or uncertain - that is the time I need to hear it the most. So what can be done? I take it one step at a time. I pray a lot, do things that calm my spirit like reading or listening to something uplifting, I get quiet and ask for help to hear the still small voice. What about you? How do you tune in to the channel that guides you in the right direction? Sometimes I cook. It gets me in the space where I hear the symphony of Grandma’s dictating recipes. I give thanks for them and then I ask for a different set of mentors to help me through, to see the light, to believe that there is a recipe for success in the situation I’m going through. Life is a banquet of good and bad. The good news is that we all have our free agency to choose how to react to situations that life brings. Difficulty can’t always be avoided. In fact, sometimes it is necessary for our spiritual evolution. When I’m going through a hard time, I remind myself it’s my choice of how I respond. I look for the blessing in the lesson (blesson). I get quiet, grounded, and intentionally listen for that still small voice. |
