Too Much on Your Plate?

I have too much on my plate. I’ve been trying to keep my head above water, but despite my best efforts, it’s not working well. Because the business of life and perfectly managing my To Do list is such a challenge for me, I like to share ways that help me to slow down.  I use what I need help with as a topic of discussion and learning. To put it another way, my mess is my message. I’m not a master organizer, I’m in the trenches with many of you, doing my best to navigate clarity.

Here are some suggested truths to follow to help liberate you from the fallacy of perfection:

  1. Know what you want. Prioritize daily, weekly, and monthly outcomes. Write it down.
  2. Say NO to things that aren’t on the above list. Set your boundaries..
  3. Take a few calming breaths when things get harried.  Remind yourself of your desired outcome.
  4. Ask for help. No one can get it ALL done.
  5. Feed your body, mind, and spirit by doing what you love every day. (Even if it's just a part of your day).

One of the many reasons I love to cook is because it can incorporate all of the steps above.

  1. You need to know what you want to make, or eat.
  2. You need to set your boundaries - make 30 minute meals instead of 2 hour meals (unless you have the and you really want to do it!)
  3. Sometimes when I cook, I think of all the other things that need to get done, which can stress me out.  The simple act of consciously breathing is soothing.
  4. Occasionally my husband asks if he can help chop things. I always say no. I’m going to resolve that by asking him to help me. See! This is stuff I’m working on!
  5. If you don’t love to cook, do you love to eat? Get excited about the meal you will get to eat.  Find fun in the colors, smells, and textures of your ingredients. If you love spending time with your children, invite them to help you cook. Make cooking dinner a delight by making it “you time” - put on some music, light a candle, sip some wine.

I hope this has given you a few ideas to live deliciously.  You are going to want to fill your plate with my “Insanely Delicious Lasagna”, link below.
