That Still Small Voice

There are some situations in life where I’m not sure what to do.  Cooking is not one of them. I feel like I have a group of Grandma Chefs who whisper to me while I cook -” try this, add that! Oh, this would go well with….”  These suggestions come to me every day, sometimes, even in the middle of the night!

We all have access to a still small voice that's meant to guide us through our daily life.  Sometimes the whisper is barely audible, I ask God to pump up the volume. This request is answered with another whisper that says “You need to be intentional, grounded, and open to hear it.  It takes practice”. Oh shoot, that means no, and I have to do it from my side.

I think when we are authentically engaged in doing something we love, our hearts help us to hear our guidance better. The challenge for me is to be intentional and open when I'm engaged in something I don’t love. It’s hard for me to hear that still small voice when I’m afraid or uncertain - that is the time I need to hear it the most. So what can be done? I take it one step at a time.  I pray a lot, do things that calm my spirit like reading or listening to something uplifting, I get quiet and ask for help to hear the still small voice.  What about you? How do you tune in to the channel that guides you in the right direction? Sometimes I cook.  It gets me in the space where I hear the symphony of Grandma’s dictating recipes.  I give thanks for them and then I ask for a different set of mentors to help me through, to see the light, to believe that there is a recipe for success in the situation I’m going through.

Life is a banquet of good and bad. The good news is that we all have our free agency to choose how to react to situations that life brings.  Difficulty can’t always be avoided. In fact, sometimes it is necessary for our spiritual evolution.  When I’m going through a hard time, I remind myself it’s my choice of how I respond. I look for the blessing in the lesson (blesson). I get quiet, grounded, and intentionally listen for that still small voice.
