I’m visiting my sister in Utah. The weather is providing a wide variety of experiences! Sunny, windy, rainy with thunderstorms, cold (55 degrees, which is cold for this Hawaiian) and warm at 72 degrees.
I believe God talks to us in a million ways through everyday experiences, like weather. A Life Lesson taught by weather is that it can change in a moment's notice. We are having a family dinner outside today and the forecast has vacillated from sunny with no chance of rain to 30-40% chance of thunderstorms. Just like weather, Life is hard to predict. It teaches us to be prepared, to have a plan B, and to enjoy what shows up. We are hoping it will be sunny and warm, but if we have to move the party inside, it will provide a different and maybe even better experience. We will be physically closer and that may cook up opportunities for everyone to hear a special story that they may have missed out on, had they been at a different table. Weather can be fair and catastrophic, another way it parallels Life. It’s hard to deal with disaster, harm, and injury. Some of us have expensive insurance policies to help us cope with damage. What represents the equivalent insurance for Life’s challenges, and what does it cost? I have given that some deep thought. I don’t think there is any insurance to protect us from what Life brings. Bad things happen to good people every day. I don’t like that, but I believe this earth plane is a testing ground for growth and spiritual evolution. I know that in most cases, the most difficult experiences have brought me the most growth. There have been trials I didn’t think it was possible to live through. Even though there is no insurance, we can find assurance through building and maintaining a close relationship with a Higher Power. Life is one big and continuous test of faith filled with fair and foul weather. The price to flourish through the storms is to have faith - to hope for things that are not seen, to believe in the impossible, that somehow, a kind Providence will see us through. If we do that, we can experience an internal fair weather that lifts us above the storm, where the sun is always shining. This is what I’m striving for, and what I wish for you.
