Transformative Recipe

I don’t like things that are really spicy, so I stayed away from jalapenos for a long time.  Then I discovered if I deseeded them, they were just right for me! For this recipe, If you like medium heat, leave a few seeds in; like it hot? leave a moderate amount in.

These bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers are a good reminder that we are the masters of our fate. Hear me out. The poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley may seem totally unrelated, but if you open up your mind, once again, you will discover a life lesson through food.

As I stated earlier, I avoided jalapenos. I took it in the state it was given - full of seeds, and therefore full of heat. Jalapenos with the seeds was “the place of wrath and tears” for me. As Captain of my soul, I chose to modify it, so that it served and benefited me. This is a profound lesson. Take a minute and let that sink in. For example, perhaps your partner told you they wanted a divorce and you didn’t. Take the “fell clutch of circumstance” aka, the heat. Choose to look for the benefits in it. My divorce was one of the most painful things I’ve gone through. It took 5 years of lawyers, court hearings and an obscene amount of money.  I was not happy with the outcome.  It wasn’t fair. It was ugly, people wrongly judged me.

It took me YEARS to be able to see the good that came from it. There are lessons I learned so well that I’ll never have to repeat them ever again because I went through the divorce.  We all have painful, unjust, and miserable experiences in life. With time, if you choose to be the master of your fate, you will come to see the blessings.

Go ahead, call me crazy. But if you make this recipe, choose to learn from it. Take charge. Ask for guidance to see how it relates to a circumstance in your life. How can you transform something painful into a blessing? How can you take something so awful and give thanks for it? That’s the challenge we all are given. It’s up to you. May you connect with your unconquerable soul.
